Thermal Indulgence
We all love soaking in the hot springs Mother Nature has gratefully gifted us from this region. But what makes them so special. Hot springs or medicinal waters with high mineral content are those which emerge spontaneously from the core of the Earth, or are caught by means of drilling and, as a result of their physical and/or chemical characteristics, may exert therapeutic effects which relieve or restore people's health. The natural thermal waters at the Polynesian Spa in Rotorua are alkaline mineral and great for relieving muscle tensions, arthritis and skin conditions.
I loved the private pools that overlooked the lake. After a good 30 minute soak it was time for one of the famous spa treatments they Polynesian Spa is famous for. I opted for the warm thermal mud wrap which is supposed to detoxify and soften the skin followed by a mind blowing massage. The mud was then rinsed off with the warm Vichy shower. I almost couldn’t make it to the car park but slept like a baby.
Another great thermal experience in Rotorua is Hell’s Gate with large mud baths the whole family can roll around in. Very relaxing and also with a spring-fed waterfall, plunge pool and sulphur baths this is a unique and relaxing way to take in the geothermal regions best resources.
