KHPA Park Profile: Hokitika's Kiwi Holiday Park and Motels
Hokitika's Kiwi Holiday Park and Motels (HKHPM) is the newest member of our Kiwi Holiday Parks and Accommodation (KHPA) family, and we’re over the moon to welcome the newly built venue aboard. HKHPM happily replaced Hokitika’s previous holiday park, which was sadly demolished to make space for a car park.
The Hokitika park offers explorers, business people and holiday makers a place to rejuvenate and enjoy a friendly atmosphere on the South Island’s beautiful West Coast.
Types of accommodation and facilities available
HKHPM offers a wide range of accommodation options to cater for individuals, couples, groups and families from all walks of life. The park is well-equipped with fully serviced one- and two-bedroom motel units, studio units, cabins and powered and non-powered camp sites.
Visitors to the brand new Hokitika accommodation complex can enjoy clean and barely used digs along with modern amenities including free unlimited Wi-Fi, a massive communal area with two kitchen spaces, covered BBQ area, ablution blocks and coin-operated laundry.
Parents, caregivers and kids alike will be especially stoked with the huge playground complete with jumping pillow and skateboard ramp! Watch MPs Judith Collins and Maureen Pugh testing the jumping pillow.
Your hosts at Hokitika's Kiwi Holiday Park and Motels
Susan and Russell Clarke are the proud managers at HKHPM — Hokitika’s newest holiday park. The couple were motivated to pursue careers in park management by their own experiences of holiday making when their children were younger. They found staying in basic cabins at holiday parks to be a very affordable option for them and they enjoyed how much emphasis parks put on catering for the needs of a family.
The Clarke’s enjoyed staying in holiday parks so much they bought a caravan and continued to “enjoy the relaxed and friendly environment of parks, meeting many other holiday makers doing the same thing”.
What makes being resident managers fun for them is “meeting people from many different countries and walks of life. We get enormous pleasure ensuring people enjoy their stay in Hokitika, especially those cycling the West Coast Wilderness Trail, and those with small children — ensuring mums and dads get a holiday as well!”

Why Hokitika for a new holiday park?
Prior to taking up their Resident Manager roles at HKHPM, Susan and Russell were managers at the previous Hokitika holiday park. Unfortunately, this park was purchased by Westland Milk Products who demolished it to build a new carpark for their staff.
The demolition left the West Coast town without a holiday park. This saw the town’s accommodation availability stretched to its limits by the rapidly growing number of tourists visiting the region.
A local developer identified the gap in the market and saw HKHPM as a great opportunity to expand on his current construction business.
Where is Hokitika's Kiwi Holiday Park and Motels located?
The park is located on Davie Street, a three-minute drive or 16-minute walk from the centre of Hokitika township. It’s in close proximity to the local airport, Sunset Point, and multiple nearby attractions that can be experienced as daytrips.
What local attractions do Susan and Russell recommend?
The number one piece of advice Susan and Russell have for their customers is, "Don’t rush… there is SO much to see and do, give yourself plenty of time. We think the West Coast of the South Island (including Hokitika) is New Zealand’s must-visit area." The couple recommend that anyone exploring the region sees the Milford Sounds and Fiordland.
