Artsy Day in Nelson
My perfect day in Nelson started off with coffee and pastry at The Morning Room, the café attached to the Red Art Gallery then off to the Broadgreen Historic House and its century old gardens. Then it was of to Richmond, turning right on Queen Street to see glass-blowing at Hoglund Art Glass and for wine tasting at Waimea Estate.
Working up an appetite we stopped for an amazing lunch at the Wharfside in Mapua. I recommend stopping next door to the Smokehouse to buy some freshly smoked Nelson fish and look at the beautiful jewellery at Cool Store Gallery.
Then we headed inland toward the Neudorf Daily and winery for more tastings. The cheese is amazing. Make sure you stop by the Fire Sculpture Garden in Kina and take home a funky mug or plate by Steve Fullmer’s Gallery.
Back to Nelson for dinner you can watch the sunset over the Mt. Arthur ranges from the Boat Shed Café at Nelson Haven and have a nightcap at Hopgod’s Bar for a perfect end to a perfect day.
